In4mation G-Shocks are in store, check our interview with the man who gets the watches done

KCDC just got in the new In4mation G-Shock, a cool purple and blue watch designed by one of our favorite brands. To help get a little insight into the In4mation company, I caught up with KCDC friend, and NYC transplant, Rhandy Tambio. Rhandy is one of the “4″ in In4mation, and responsible for the design direction of the In4mation clothing. Hit the jump (click “more”) to read my interview with him about the brand, the clothes, what he thinks about Christ Airs, and the watch. Happy holidays everyone, please give us a call if you would like us to put one of these on hold for you. -Amy

Your full name: Rhandy Perucho Tambio
    Stance: Regular
Favorite street trick: Ollies and Tre Flips
    Favorite vert trick: Christ Air
Favorite color: Purples, Red and Grays

What exactly is In4mation? Is it a shop or a clothing line?
In4mation started as a collective of four childhold friends (me and 3 others) who opened a skateshop in our hometown Mililani, O’ahu, in 2002. We moved and expanded to Honolulu and Waikiki years later, and the clothing brand came after our T-shirt line took off. Our streetwear is stemmed in our passion for skateboarding and surfing, and making this product allows us to support that.

Who are the heads behind the brand?

We have about 12 Employees in Hawaii that handle the retail stores, operations and marketing. In NYC, there are 13 people who handle team management, design, production, collections, and distribution.

How did it all come about?

In4mation started as a continuation from another retail project we did. Ryan, Todd, Jun and myself went all in and put all our cards on the table without any type of investors.

What made you guys decide to expand into a full brand?
We always wanted to do it from the beginning, it was just a matter of time and money. I got sick of working for other companies while doing In4mation in my spare time and had to throw in the corporate towel and concentrate on In4mation’s well being and future. Working at bigger companies was a good way for me to figure out how things went down, but now every drop of sweat is devoted to In4mation with support of Elska Sandor and Saviour Sanquiche.

You guys have always been big supporters to the New York skate scene. Who do you sponsor from NYC currently?
From NYC? Right now our roster from the Atlantic Ocean side is John Igei, Spencer Fujimoto, Jaime Reyes, Angelo Lee, James Frankhouse, Derrik Polish D, Steve Young aka Keen One and Sean “The flyin Hawaiian” Kelling. We also got a lot of heads on flow like Rodney Torres and some Dobbin Block Heads.

    Where are you based now?

We’re based on 26th street in Manhattan

Does the In4mation 4 all hang out still?

We always hang on the get weird and irish car bomb tip

I’ve known Elska since the Rookie Skateboard days. She is one of my favorite women’s designers her original brand, Rookie, is still one of my favorite companies to this day. What is her involvement in the brand?
Elska directs the women’s side of things and contributes her knowledge in running the brand on both the creative and technical side. She’s a great asset to In4mation and a great friend, as you know. We all love Aunite E!

In4mation has always has great accessories and has done some pretty impressive collabs. How did the G-Shock collaboration come about?

Our first G-shock happened about 3 years ago, I think. One of our Hawaiian employees asked me what G-Shock I would do, so I told him (Zen) that I love the geekiness of the Databank. After that he and the boys flew to Japan, hooked up with some people at G-shock headquarters that they knew, and scheduled a meeting with the VP. The rest was history. Since then we’ve done a few watches, and have tried to push collaborations that fit with our brand.

Whats different about this collection’s watch versus the last one?

The purple and teal watch is actually Elska’s color combo, and her pick. Mine was the Seafoam colorway (from this summer).

Do you have any future endeavors that you’d like to tell us about?

Better product, bigger team, more smiles, and a lot of laughter. Maybe an In4mation Hawaiian BBQ House? We’re fortunate and passionate about everything. When it comes to food, we’re ready to throw on the apron.

Whats the weather in Hawaii today?

It’s really nice. You don’t want to know.
