Natalie- Ah! Sam!  I’m so excited for you to get a shoe colorway. I wanted to chat with you about the shoe, how it happened, and how your skating has been lately! First, How did this shoe come about? Did you know you wanted to do that model?

Sam-Yes, it's my favorite shoe. So it was easy to choose that shoe when Adidas offered me a colorway.

N-It’s such a classic shoe, crisp white with tonal details. What was the inspiration?

S-When I had knee surgery I started cooking a lot again. I made a couple of key lime pies for some friends, and they were hyped. I was inspired by the colors of the pie and wanted to incorporate my love for food into the shoe.

N- That’s awesome. Let’s talk about injuries. When I met you at KCDC during the Adidas shop hang, you mentioned you had just had ACL surgery and I had a torn ACL at the time.  How are you doing and feeling now?

S-I’m feeling a lot better now, but still doing physical therapy, and it’s become a part of my routine. I feel stronger in my legs than ever before. Hope your knee is healing well too!

N- Thank you, we’re getting there. The best thing you said to me was “After surgery, schedule therapy” and I said oh I’m already in Physical Therapy, and you said “No, therapy” which has rung true. It's been a crazy mental journey through this injury, how was it dealing with yours?

S-Yes! It’s a rollercoaster of emotions. Definitely a lot of ups and downs in the process. I just tried really hard to stay positive and keep pushing forward. I would look at photos from the beginning of my recovery. This would help me not get too discouraged. Once I got to push around again it helped a lot mentally.

N- How does it feel coming back to skating?

S-It feels amazing, and having a gnarly injury makes you appreciate it so much more. I have been skating so much since they told me I could push.

N- Yo I totally feel that! Even just being able to push is a reward in itself.  It looks like you’ve been on the road a lot, where have you been skating lately and what are some highlights?

S-Haha, yea haven’t really been home too much lately. I was recently in Mexico City, Cuba, Portugal, and Miami. Miami was a huge highlight because I got to celebrate my colorway with my childhood friends and family.

N- Woah that sounds awesome! I saw the photos and social posts, it looked awesome.  Congratulations!  What are some of your goals for the next year/chapter?

S-Film as much as possible, and work on putting out some parts. Keep skating and traveling to new places.

N- That’s amazing, I can’t wait to see the new footy.  I just want to say that I really look up to you as an inspiration, it’s been awesome to meet you and follow your journey.  I’m excited for everything that's coming to you, and of course, if you’ve ever in town, come say hi!  Thanks Sam!

S-Thank you so much! That’s so sweet and means a lot to me! And I definitely will

N- Can’t wait to see you again.  Until then, enjoy the ride!
